Only by getting a good, predictable, consistent grind of your beans can you achieve predictable brew every time. Once I dialed in the correct grind for my drip coffee maker, by using filtered water I was able to adjust the exact amount of beans to get the strength I wanted, every time. The unpredictable grind of an s-blade machine causes varying strength even using the same amount of beans every time. The Capresso conical burr grinder eliminates this inconsistency, and I make the best cup of Joe I've ever tasted, every day. It is also easy to clean, and doesn't spray coffee powder all over like some other grinders. Well worth the expense. I received this as a wedding registry gift, and it has not failed to disappoint! Before adding it to the registry, I agonized over the options in burr grinders, and value was definitely my highest criteria. For the price, this grinder comes with heavy-duty grinding wheels with sharp cutting surfaces. The grind is very consistent. The fine-grind results are quite fine indeed, but I have not tested it out in an espresso maker yet. I almost always use a press pot to brew my coffee, so I yearned for a consistent coarse grind (impossible with a blade grinder). If you set this grinder to any of the four "coarse" setting, it seems to result in a bit of sediment after a French press brew. I've found that if you set the grinder just under the coarsest setting, the press-pot coffee turns out divine. There is still dust in your coffee, but it is heavier and more confined to the bottom of the cup. Just don't take the last sip and you're fine.

Cleaning the quiet coffee grinder is no more time-consuming than cleaning a blade-type grinder. I'd recommend getting yourself a good stiff brush, the small brush it comes with is not really adequate. The clear plastic parts of the unit are quite thick and appear to be durable. At first, I thought that having only a timer switch and not an "pulse" grinder switch as well would be a problem, but it really hasn't been a problem. To "pulse" grind the coffee to reach just the exact amount of ground coffee that I want, I just set the timer to just below the "1" marking and it runs for a few second, just as if I was pulsing it. During the winter time when the humidity is low, the electrostatic charge that builds up on the unit sometimes causes a small cloud of coffee to pour out on my hand when I'm removing the ground coffee from it's plastic container. I can sometimes avoid this by grounding myself before, then wiping my hand across the unit. Perhaps, the metal version of this grinder would have less of a problem with static electricity than the black plastic version. The timer switch's "number of cups" markings don't correspond to the amount of coffee that I personally like for my cups of coffee, but after a bit of experimentation, you can find the exact setting that works best for you.
